LAS VEGAS – Georgia Tech’s Kristi Miller, Whitney McCray and Alison Silverio all earned singles victories on the final day of competition at the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships.
Although originally scheduled to begin Friday but postponed due to frigid conditions in the Las Vegas area, the first round of singles was played Sunday morning. After each competitor finished one singles match, the tournament was called due to travel schedules.
Miller, the No. 3 seed in the singles tournament, earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over UCLA’s Stephanie Wetmore while McCray posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Oregon’s Dominika Dieskova.
Silverio battled for a first-set tiebreaker win over Florida’s Lolita Fangulyan and came away with a 7-6, 6-3 victory at the end of the day.
The Jackets’ Tarryn Rudman earned a first-round matchup with Stanford’s fourth-seeded Theresa Logar, but couldn’t pull out a victory, losing 6-2, 6-3.
The Jackets will return to action at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which is scheduled to begin the first weekend in February.
