Jackets Dominate Hokies, 5-2

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis secured the victory against the Virginia Tech Hokies, 5-2, on Sunday.

In the first dual match to be played outdoors this year, the Yellow Jackets started fast with a win on No. 3 doubles from Chen Dong and Keshav Chopra, 6-4. After No. 2 doubles went to the Hokies, focus turned to No. 1 doubles that featured two top 13 doubles pairings.

The No. 13 doubles pairing of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were facing No. 9 Chrysostom/Fishback on court one. Martin/McDaniel would go to a tiebreaker before winning the tie breaker 7-1 and the set 7-6(1), giving the Jackets a 1-0 lead.

The first singles match would go to Virginia Tech before the Yellow Jackets took the next four singles matches. Chopra secured the first singles point for Georgia Tech, 6-4, 6-1, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Jackets would hold that lead for the rest of the match. Two more singles matches went down in straight sets. First with Dong on court four winning his match, 6-4, 7-5, the No. 24 Martin beating No. 103 Fishback, 6-2, 7-6(5). This clinched the match for Georgia Tech 4-1.

There would be one more win for the Yellow Jackets coming from McDaniel at No. 2 singles, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

The White and Gold will continue ACC play on March 23 against Clemson at 4:00 p.m.
