ATLANTA – The Yellow Jackets won six of seven singles matches and again earned a pair of doubles wins to continue their strong run at the 2007 Georgia Tech Fall Invitational, which is being played at the Bill Moore Tennis Center this weekend.
The three-day tournament concludes Sunday, with the Yellow Jackets playing doubles at 10 a.m. and singles at 2 p.m.
Christy Striplin and Maya Johansson continued their stellar play on day two of the tournament, and both remain undefeated through two singles and two doubles matches this weekend. Striplin teamed with Noelle Hickey in doubles to start Saturday’s play, posting an 8-4 victory over Georgia State’s Dariana Kozmina and Mateja Podgorsek, while Johansson paired with Kirsten Flower to record an 8-3 win against Georgia’s Adrienne Elsberry and Cameron Ellis.
Striplin defeated Florida State’s Tapiwa Marobela, 7-5, 6-4, and Johansson dropped the Seminoles’ Federica Suess, 6-1, 6-3. Also posting straight-set singles wins on the afternoon were Hickey, Whitney McCray and Sasha Krupina. Hickey dropped Carolin Walter, 6-1, 6-1 before McCray downed Ania Rynarzewska, 6-1, 6-3. Krupina, playing in just her second collegiate singles match, battled to win her first set against Jessica Wente in a tiebreaker and then closed out the straight-set win, 7-6, 6-3.
Amanda McDowell rounded out the Jackets’ singles winners with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 win against the Seminoles’ Lauren Macfarlane.
