Jackets Conclude Time At Penn Relays

PHILADEPHIA – The final two days of competition by the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track teams at the World Famous Penn Relays at Franklin Field was highlighted by a third place finish by freshman Julienne McKee in the triple jump.

McKee launched herself 12.53 meters to make her way to the podium for the second time on the weekend after finishing third in the long jump on Thursday.

DJ McMillan also did well on the weekend coming away with a ninth place victory in the 10,000 meter run, crossing the line in 30:06.96, knocking 24 seconds off of his time from the ACC Championships recorded on the weekend of April 21-23.

The Jackets only other field athlete, Mykhail Chambers, finished in 12th place in the high jump with a launch of 2.00 meters.

Melanie Akwule took part in her first event of the weekend, the 100 meter hurdles. Akwule crossed the line in 26th place with a time of 14.56 seconds.

The relays finished out the weekend for the Jackets as the men took part in both the Distance Medley and the 4×800 meter relays. The foursome of Shawn Roberts, Antonio McKay, Jr., Alec Clifford, and Mark Mendrek-Laske earned a spot on the podium with their third place finish in a time of 9:54.15.

The 4×800 relay team of Morgan Stephenson, Roberts, Powers, and Clifford took home a 15th place performance crossing in 7:35.02, while the women’s 4×800 team of Jade Sims, Kayla McKeirnan, Mary Kownack and Jamie VanTassell took home 24th place with a time of 9:24.70.
