ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Georgia Tech, ranked fourth in the nation according to the first Fila Collegiate Ranking of the season, concluded play in the 2006 Michigan Invitational by winning five singles and two doubles matches to bring the Jackets’ wins total to 25 for the three-day event.
The Jackets won 18 of 24 singles matches and took seven of 10 doubles matches on the weekend against teams from No. 17 California, No. 35 Michigan and No. 43 Louisiana State.
Tech swept both doubles matches in Sunday’s morning action, as Tech’s 26th-ranked Kristi Miller and Lyndsay Shosho downed LSU’s Lauren Seaman and Tiffany Tucker, 8-3, while Tarryn Rudman and Alison Silverio dropped the Tigers’ duo of Anastasiya Dubova and Mykala Hedbert, 8-5.
Seventh-ranked Miller, 25th-ranked Rudman, Silverio, senior Kacie Anson and rookie Christy Striplin all recorded singles wins on the afternoon. Miller won a 6-2, 6-2 match against No. 48 Nina Yaftali of Michigan while Rudman stopped the Wolverine’s Elizabeth Exon, 6-1, 7-5. Silverio blanked U-M’s Lindsey Howard, 6-0, 6-0, Striplin defeated Michigan’s Allis Shafner, 6-1, 6-2, and Anson rounded out the Tech victors with a 6-4, 6-2 win over California’s Jessica Shu.
The Jackets will return to action at the beginning of Februrary when they travel to Madison, Wisc. to participate in the National Indoor Championships
