THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Alejandra Cruz and Scarlett Nicholson wrapped up competition at the ITA All-American Championships on Thursday, dropping hard-fought matches in the back draw. The prestigious event, with direct qualification into NCAA Individual Championships, was played at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Nicholson opened the morning facing an Atlantic Coast Conference foe in No. 36 Ozlem Uslu of Virginia Tech. Nicholson dropped a hard-fought contest, 6-1, 6-3, before Cruz took the courts in the afternoon against Georgia’s Sofia Rojas. The Yellow Jacket grabbed the first set, 6-4, but Rojas forced the match into three with a 6-2 second set. Rojas sealed the win, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
