Jackets Conclude Carolina Kickoff

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 12 Georgia Tech women’s tennis wrapped up its season-opening weekend at the Carolina Kickoff on Saturday, collecting six wins, highlighted by Carol Lee and Kate Sharabura upending the No. 2 doubles team in the country.

Action kicked off in the morning with the final round of doubles play against Atlantic Coast Conference foe Wake Forest. Facing the No. 2 doubles team in the country in Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, Tech’s Lee and Sharabura were on serve at 3-all in the early going. The Jackets gained momentum and won the next three games to take the match, 6-3.

In singles action, Tech saw straight-set victories from Gia Cohen, Lee, Mahak Jain, Ruth Marsh and Sharabura. Cohen picked up her second singles win of the weekend, edging Wake Forest’s Saby Nihalani, 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Lee played her first singles match of the weekend on Saturday, upending No. 75 Anna Campana in straight-sets, 6-2, 7-5.

Freshman Sharabura solidified her unblemished singles record on the weekend, collecting a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Maddie Lynch, while Mahak Jain also saw her second win of the weekend, downing Brylin, 6-2, 6-1. Rounding out singles action, Marsh pocketed her first singles win of the weekend, defeating Mia Ahmad, 6-1, 6-4.

Georgia Tech returns to the court and opens dual match play at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on Saturday, Jan. 22, welcoming Georgia Southern. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
