Jackets Complete Day One At NCAA East Preliminaries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –The Georgia Tech track and field team wrapped up day one at the NCAA East Preliminaries Thursday hosted by North Florida at Hodges Stadium.

Julienne McKee qualified in the women’s long jump for the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore., while Broderick Snoddy, Brandon Lasater and Jeremy Greenwald made the cut for the quarterfinals in their events.

McKee leaped to a distance of 6.25m (20-6.25) in the long jump to place sixth and punch her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championship for the fourth time in her career. She’ll attempt to qualify in two events when she competes in the triple jump at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Broderick Snoddy ran the 100-meter preliminaries in a time of 10.60 to make the cut for the quarter finals scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m. He will also run in the 200-meter first round Friday at 8 p.m.

Jeremy Greenwald finished second in the 1500 preliminaries with a time of 3:45.06 to qualify for the quarterfinal round set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Brandon Lasater finished in the top three of his heat in the 800 meters, logging a time of 1:49.41, and will run in the quarter finals on Friday at 7 p.m. Teammates Zack Fanelty and Shawn Roberts finished the race with times of 1:49.72 and 1:49.38, respectively, but did not qualify to move forward.

Also on the track, Ama Larbi ran in the 400-meter hurdles and finished in a time of 1:00.82.

Friday’s field events include Samantha Becker in the women’s pole vault (12 p.m.) and Jonathan Gardner in the men’s triple jump (5 p.m.).

Saturday’s events include the quarterfinals of the 1500 meters (6:30 p.m.) and 200 meters (7:35 p.m.). Greenwald will run the 5000-meter semifinals at 8:05 p.m. In the field events, Nikita Kirillov will compete in the pole vault (12 p.m.) and McKee takes on the triple jump (5 p.m.).
