ANN ARBOR, Mich. – On the opening day of the Michigan Invite, Georgia Tech women’s tennis collected six wins between singles and doubles play. The 14th-ranked Yellow Jackets opened the spring slate facing Ohio State in singles play followed by Tennessee in doubles action.
The morning served up the first round of singles between the Yellow Jackets and Buckeyes. Tech collected four wins from No. 24 Kenya Jones, Nami Otsuka, Gia Cohen and Nadia Gizdova. Jones cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Isabelle Boulais, while classmate Otsuka pocketed a three-set victory over Danielle Wolf, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Making her Yellow Jacket debut on Saturday, Cohen took home her first collegiate win, downing Emma DeCoste, 7-6, 6-4. Rounding out the singles wins for Tech, Gizdova won a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 decision over Andrea Ballinger.
Immediately following singles, Tech faced Tennessee in doubles play. Otsuka partnered with Dalila Said to capture a 6-2 win over Tenika McGriffin and Gabby Schuck, while No. 39 Victoria Flores and Valeriya Deminova also proved victorious, defeating Ariadna Riley and Maia Haumuller, 6-4.
Tech returns to the courts for day two action on Sunday. The Jackets will face Ohio State in doubles play followed by singles action against host and No. 10 Michigan.
