Jackets Capture Titles to Conclude Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. – On the final day of competition at the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic, Georgia Tech took home five singles flight titles. Four Yellow Jackets finished the tournament undefeated in both singles and doubles.

Competing in flight one, freshman Kylie Bilchev kept her weekend record unblemished, topping Tennessee’s Rebeka Mertea in the title match. Bilchev battled Mertea in the first set, winning in a tiebreak, 7-6 (1), before cruising to a 6-3 second set victory to win the flight. Carol Lee also went undefeated on the weekend and took home the flight four championship after rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Furman’s Sara Snyder.

Monika Dedaj captured the flight 10 title on Sunday. She faced Marta Falceto (MSU) in the championship match, and pocketed a 7-5, 6-3 decision. Freshman Kate Sharabura went undefeated in her first tournament as a Yellow Jacket and was the winner in flight 11. On Sunday, Sharabura faced Linsday Zink (UNC) for the title and won a tough three-set battle over the Tar Heel, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. Rounding out play for Tech, Sophia Sassoli was undefeated in flight 12 after edging Ohio State’s Dani Schoenly, 6-3, 6-3, on Sunday.

Ava Hrastar also competed for the flight three title, but dropped a hard-fought match to South Carolina’s Sarah Hamner, 7-6, 7-5. Competing in the back draw, Mahak Jain captured a three-set victory over Margaryta Bilokin (Duke), 0-6, 6-3, 6-0, to finish the tournament 2-1 in singles action.

The Yellow Jackets return to action at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout, Oct. 8-10.
