April 19, 2008

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech volleyball team wrapped up its spring campaign by capturing the Great Lakes Center/Sports Performance Collegiate Spring Tournament title Saturday in Aurora, Ill.

The Yellow Jackets were one of 24 teams competing in the tournament, which consisted of pool and bracket play at the Great Lakes Center.

Tech went 5-0 with wins over Marshall (25-21, 27-25) and Michigan State (25-17, 25-17) to win its pool play before knocking off Louisville, 25-21, 25-14, in the first round, Kansas State, 25-12, 22-25, 15-12, in the second round and St. Louis, 30-23, in the finals.

“This was a great finish to our spring season,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bond Shymansky. “I am proud of the improvements that our team made. Our determination and unity had a galvanizing effect. We have never turned a bad spring season into a good fall season, so it was crucial for us to have success because we know we can turn this into a great run.”

The Yellow Jackets will take the summer off before returning to the courts in August for the 2008 volleyball season.
