Jackets Break Into National Rankings

ATLANTA – After a strong showing at the Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships, the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team appeared in the Trackwire Top 25, entering the poll at No. 20. The Yellow Jackets are tied with Washington State with 11 points.

Leading Tech at the ACC Indoor Championships was junior Ashlee Kidd. Kidd, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., broke the ACC meet and school records in the 200- and 400-meter dash events. Kidd finished with a NCAA Provisional time of 23.37 (6th in the nation) in the 200m, and clocked the nation’s fourth-fastest time in the 400m with a mark of 52.61.

Andriane Lapsley won her second consecutive 60-meter dash ACC title this past weekend. Lapsley, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, clocked a personal-record and NCAA Provisional time of 7.35 in the prelims and currently stands 19th in the nation. She also finaled in the 200m and 60-meter high hurdles for Tech and holds NCAA Provisional times of 23.90 and 8.36, respectively.

Junior Fatmata Fofanah and sophomore Shantia Moss posted NCAA Provisional and personal-record times in the 60m hurdles to earn all-conference honors. Fofanah, a native of Bronx, N.Y., finished runner-up with a time of 8.215. Moss, a native of Tamarac, Fla., finished just behind Fofanah with a time of 8.218.

Senior Brandy Depland was the final athlete to garner All-ACC honors for the Jackets. Depland, a native of Katy, Texas, finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, 8 ½ inches. She currently ranks second in the nation with a school record mark of 44 feet, 2 inches.
