THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis kicked off their season Saturday when a pair of Jackets competed at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Chen Dong was the first Yellow Jacket to compete when he went up against Tom Thelwall-Jones of Tulsa followed up with a match against Patrick Zahraj of UCLA. Keshav Chopra received a bye through the first round and matched up with Ivan Thamma of SMU.
Dong’s first match against Thelwall-Jones started at 9:30 a.m. CT. Dong prevailed over his first opponent only dropping two games on his way to his two set victory, 6-0 and 6-2. He competed again 4 p.m. CT against Zahraj and took the match 6-3 and 6-4. Chopra received a bye through the first round and faced Thamma in the second round at 6 p.m. CT. Chopra won his match by a score of 6-4 and 6-3.
Dong faces Oscar Pinto Sansano of Arkansas in his first match Sunday at 8 a.m. CT. If he were to win this match, he plays again at 1 p.m. Chopra starts his day at noon and a potential second match would begin at 4 p.m.
