Oct. 6, 2016

TULSA, Okla. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis junior Christopher Eubanks and senior Carlos Benito  brought the heat on Thursday at the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships. Eubanks advanced in the men’s singles main draw while Benito and Eubanks also moved on to the round of 16 in the men’s doubles main draw.

Eubanks took down No. 35 ranked Jordan Daigle of LSU, 7-5, 7-6(6) in his official return as a Jacket after his historic summer.

Not losing any steam, Eubanks then went on to join Carlos Benito on the courts for the doubles main draw. The Jackets downed Indiana’s No. 58 ranked Antonio Cembellin and Raheel Maji, 7-6, 6-2.

The Tech pairing claimed the first set in a tiebreaker, coming out on top, 7-6. In the second set, the No. 14 ranked doubles pair jumped out to a 3-1 lead. The pair from Indiana rallied to bring the score within one at 3-2. But the Jackets turned it on, taking the next three games to secure the second set, 6-2.

The pair will play tomorrow in the round of 16 of the men’s doubles main draw. Eubanks will face California’s No. 61 Billy Griffith in the singles main draw.
