Athens, Ga. (September 1) — In an exhibition match in Athens, Ga. on Wednesday night, the Yellow Jacket volleyball team defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 3-1, 15-13, 15-7, 15-4, 16-18 in front of 227 fans.
Georgia Tech’s offense shined throughout the night as they hit an impressive .382 for the match as a team. The Jackets were led by junior Teryl Townsend (Alexandria, Minn.) who recorded 15 kills, 12 digs and four block assists in the match. In addition, sophomore Anna Nedderman (Highland Village, Texas) hit an amazing .682 as she had 12 kills on 19 attempts and five blocks on the night.
The Bulldogs were paced by senior Rebecca Dady (Normal, Ill.) who had 15 kills and nine digs on the evening.
The exhibition match allowed the Yellow Jackets to fine-tune their offense and defense and play a number of line-ups.
“This was a great way for us to begijn our season,” said Collier. “Although the match won’t go against our win-loss record, it allowed us to play a variety of line-ups and see how much progress we’ve made during our practice sessions.”
“Overall, I was very pleased with our team’s performance,” continued Collier. “I felt our defensive effort was very good and our hitters did a great job of making smart shots to help us win long rallys.” The Yellow Jackets will open their season against Texas-El Paso on Friday, September 3rd in the Texas-Arlington tournament in Arlington, Texas.
