Jack, Nnamaka and Sauer Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Basketball standouts Jarrett Jack and Chioma Nnamaka and volleyball star Lauren Sauer named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, December 6, 2004.

Jack, a junior from Fort Washington, Md., averaged 17 points and 6.5 assists, made 12 of 17 field goals, 3 of 5 from three-point range and was 7-for-7 from the foul line as Tech defeated ACC-Big Ten Challenge foe Michigan and arch-rival Georgia by an average of 34.5 points last week. The 6-3 junior also committed just one turnover in 59 total minutes and had four steals in helping direct an offense that shot 54 percent from the floor, 47.6 percent from three-point range, and a defense that limited the two foes to 37.7 percent form the floor and 24.1 percent from three-point range. Jack scored 16 points with 11 assists and no turnovers in the Yellow Jackets’ 99-68 victory over Michigan Tuesday night, making 5 of 10 shots from the floor and 6 of 6 from the foul line. He also had three steals and six rebounds. Against Georgia Sunday night, he was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, including three threes, had two assists, one turnover and a steal while scoring 18 points in Tech’s 87-49 victory. Jack is now shooting 62.5 percent for the season, 50 percent from three-point range, averaging 14.8 points and 5.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds.

Nnamaka, a freshman from Uppsala, Sweden, helped Georgia Tech to a 55-49 victory over sixth-ranked Georgia Friday night with a nine point, seven rebound performance against the Bulldogs and then led all scorers with 19 points against Grambling State two days later. Added eight rebounds, two assists and a steal against the Lady Tigers and averaged 14.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals on the week while shooting 35 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free-throw line.

Sauer, a senior from Huntsville, Ala., led the Yellow Jackets to two wins in the NCAA Tournament, including an upset victory over No. 16 UC Santa Barbara to send Tech into the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. Against Georgia, she recorded 15 killsa nd hit .423 and then the next day against the Gauchos she had 16 kills, two solo blocks and hit .452. Over the weekend, she hit .439 and averaged 5.17 kills per game.
