Brian Huff, Ashlee Kidd, and Chioma Nnamaka were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, January 30, 2006.
Huff, a senior from Marietta, Ga., led the Yellow Jackets to a 173-118 win over Emory in swimming & diving competition this weekend. He placed first in the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 46.46 while anchoring the 200 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 1:22.62. Huff also swam the final leg on the 200 medley relay team that finished second with a time of 1:36.77.
Kidd, a junior from St. Petersburg, Fla., led the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team at the Rod McCravy Memorial last weekend. She clocked the nation’s third-fastest time this Saturday with a NCAA Provisional mark of 53.89 in the 400 meters to cross the finish line in first place. Kidd also tallied a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 24.17 and finished sixth in the 60-meter dash with a personal-record time of 7.53.
Nnamaka, a sophomore from Uppsala, Sweden, averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds while averaging just 19.0 minutes per game on the week, helping the Jackets to a 1-1 record against Clemson and sixth-ranked Maryland. Nnamaka shot 38 percent from the field for the week, but converted on over 84 percent from the charity stripe (11-for-13).
