Howard Finishes Second in High Jump at IAAF World Championships

HELSINKI, Finland – Former Georgia Tech women’s track star Chaunte Howard tallied a second-place finish in the women’s high jump with a personal-record clear of 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches, at the IAAF World Championships on Monday night.

Sweden’s Kajsa Bergqvist won the event after clearing 6 feet, 7 1/2 inches, on her first attempt. The 28-year-old only missed once during the finals, her first atttempt at 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches.

Howard, a native of Riverside, Calif., won the 2005 NCAA indoor national title in the high jump and finished runner-up at the 2005 Outdoor NCAA Championships, before turning professional this summer. She ended her career at Tech as a three-time NCAA national champion, ACC MVP, six-time All-American and ACC champion in the high jump.
