PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. – Competing in the backdraw of main draw singles, junior Paige Hourigan wrapped up play at the Riviera/ITA All-American on Friday.
How It Happened
Hourigan, preseason ranked No. 23, battled Ole Miss’ Arianne Hartono in the backdraw on Friday. Hourigan took the first set 6-4 from Hartono, the No. 17 preseason ranked player in the country. In a tight second set, Hourigan evened things up after trailing 4-3, bringing the set up to 4-4. However, Hartono evened the match with a 6-4 second set victory, forcing the match into a third set. Hourigan fought to the end, keeping the set close at 3-all and 5-all, but ultimately fell in a tiebreak, 6-3, as Hartono captured the match with a 7-6 third set win.
