ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis freshman Paige Hourigan and sophomore Rasheeda McAdoo went undefeated on the first day of the Bulldog Tennis Classic in Athens, Ga.
Both Hourigan and McAdoo advanced to the singles quarterfinals in the 32-player draw. During the round robin doubles portion of the tournament, the duo teamed up to capture an 8-2 win against Wisconsin’s Lauren Chypyha and Maria Avgerinos.
Hourigan defeated Lipscomb’s Laura Kent, 6-2, 6-2, in straight sets to advance to the second round of the 32-player singles draw. In round two, Hourigan faced the number four seed, Mia King of Georgia.
It was a tight in the first set against King, but Hourigan pulled out a 7-5 victory. King came back in set two and won 6-1. Hourigan battled back in set three to win 7-5 and clinch her second match of the day. Hourigan will face another Bulldog tomorrow, facing off against Laura Patterson.
McAdoo received a first round bye in the singles draw after being named a 5-8 seed. In the second round McAdoo faced East Carolina’s Michelle Castro.
McAdoo edged Castro in set one, 7-6 (5), before capturing a 6-2 victory in set two. Tomorrow, McAdoo will face Georgia’s Caroline Brinson, the overall number two seed.
Doubles play starts at 9 a.m. tomorrow while the singles quarterfinals begin tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
