THE FLATS – Georgia Tech has elected to not renew the expiring contract of softball head coach Shelly Hoerner, director of athletics Todd Stansbury announced on Monday morning.
Hoerner compiled an 80-125 overall record (.390) in four seasons at Georgia Tech (2014-17) and a 32-67 mark (.323) in Atlantic Coast Conference games. The Yellow Jackets completed a 19-34 campaign (8-16 ACC) on Sunday.
“I’d like to thank Coach Hoerner for her dedication to Georgia Tech,” Stansbury said. “She worked tirelessly for our student-athletes over the past four years but, ultimately, I’ve made the difficult decision that new leadership is needed to return our softball program to national prominence. I wish Coach Hoerner and her family nothing but the very best.”
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately. Georgia Tech has made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, won five ACC Tournament championships and claimed four regular-season conference titles since 2002 but has not advanced to the postseason since it won the ACC Tournament in 2012.
