GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech freshman Camryn Hidalgo and junior Matt Casillas swept the Atlantic Coast Conference Diver of the Week awards, the ACC announced today. The weekly league honor is the second-straight for Hidalgo, while the ACC honor is the first for Casillas.
Last week the Yellow Jackets completed its second-straight dual meet sweep with both the men and women defeating Delta State in dominating fashion.
Hidalgo had a career day on Saturday, as the freshman diver set new Georgia Tech school records in both the women’s 1-meter and 3-meter diving events in the Jackets’ win over Delta State.
In only her fourth intercollegiate meet, Hidalgo posted first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with record scores. Her score of 331.35 in the 1-meter win is a new GT school record, besting the previous mark of 321.15 set by Shannon Lumbra in 2016. It also ranks first in the ACC and 10th nationally by an individual. Hidalgo’s winning score of 353.63 in the 3-meter eclipsed the previous Tech record of 351.60. That mark also ranks first in the ACC overall and eighth nationally.
Like Hidalgo, Casillas swept the men’s diving events – 1-meter and 3-meter springboard – for the Yellow Jackets in the dual meet victory over the Statesmen. The junior did it in style, as he posted new career-best marks in both events.
In the 1-meter dive, Casillas recorded a new personal-best mark of 359.40 in the win, which ranks second in the ACC for an individual this season. His 3-meter dive score of 404.25 is also a career-best and puts him atop of the ACC for the event on the season by over 13 points.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next week, Wednesday, Nov. 8, as Tech hits the road to face off with the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Ga. The dual is set for a 4 p.m. start.
