ATHENS, Ga. – Junior David Herren, senior Andriane Lapsley and sophomore Jerome Miller posted first-place finishes to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Spec Towns Invitational on Saturday.
Herren, a native of Rome, Ga., clocked a time of 3:54.32 in the men’s 1500 meters to cross the finish line in first place.
Lapsley, a native of San Antonio, Texas, ran a NCAA Region qualifying time of 11.48 in the women’s 100-meter dash to capture the event. Lapsley also clocked a NCAA Region time of 13.86 in the 100-meter high hurdles to finish in sixth place. She tallied a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a personal-record mark of 39 feet, 9 ¼ inches, to post her third top-five finish of the meet for the Jackets.
Miller posted a season-best and NCAA Region mark of 7 feet, ¼ inch, in the men’s high jump to pace Tech. The Stafford, Va., native tallied a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, ¼ inch.
Junior Ashlee Kidd posted a pair of top-six finishes for the Yellow Jackets. Kidd, a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., finished runner-up in the 400-meter dash with a NCAA Region time of 53.82. She tallied a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.67.
Sophomore Tenisha Griggs racked up three top-eight finishes for the Rambling Wreck. Griggs, a native of Southfield, Mich., ran a NCAA Region time of 13.89 in the women’s 100m hurdles to finish in seventh place. Griggs finished seventh in the 200m with a season-best time of 24.78 and finished seventh in the 100m with a time of 12.22.
Sophomore Shantia Moss clocked a NCAA Region and season-best time of 13.44 in the women’s 100m hurdles to finish in second place for the Jackets. Moss ran a season-best time of 24.79 in the 200m to cross the finish line in eighth place.
Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen tallied a runner-up finish in the men’s shot put with a NCAA Region mark of 56 feet, 9 ¼ inches.
Junior Fatmata Fofanah became the fourth Jackets in the top eight of the women’s 100m hurdles, posting a NCAA Region time of 13.69 to finish in third place.
Senior Nico Shaner tallied a second-place finish for Tech in the men’s javelin throw, finishing with a mark of 191 feet, 7 inches.
Freshman Juan Cave cleared the men’s high jump bar at 6 feet, 8 inches, to finish in third place. Sophomore Nazar Trilisky finished fifth in the men’s 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:01.69, while freshman Nigel Orr finished fifth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 46 feet, 3 ¼ inches.
Junior Paul Specht and freshman E.C. Gibbs tallied sixth-place finishes for the Jackets. Specht clocked a season-best time of 16:07.93 in the men’s 5,000 meters, while Gibbs ran a time of 4:02.49 in the men’s 1500 meters.
Freshman Matt DiDia and sophomore Derek Hoye tallied sixth-place finishes for Tech. DiDia finished the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 49.50, while Hoye posted a time of 1:57.10 in the men’s 800 meters.
Sophomore Antoinetta McKay clocked a time of 12.15 in the women’s 100-meter dash to finish in sixth place for the Jackets.
Leading the women in the 1500 meters were sophomores Elena Linn and Nisha Kurian. Linn clocked a personal-record time of 4:40.58 to finish seventh, while Kurian ran a time of 4:41.09 to finish in eighth place.
Freshman April Phillips and senior Jewel Welch led the women in the shot put. Phillips finished seventh with a mark of 42 feet, 9 ½ inches, while Welch posted an eighth-place finish with a mark of 41 feet, 6 inches.
Freshman Kimery Hern tallied an eighth-place finish for Tech in the women’s discus with a toss of 151 feet.
