Henderson & Gergen Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Football player Eric Henderson and volleyball standout Jayme Gergen were named the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, September 8, 2003.

Henderson, a redshirt sophomore from New Orleans, La., keyed a superb defensive effort in Georgia Tech’s 17-3 victory over 17th-ranked Auburn. The Tech defense limited the Tigers to just 230 yards of total offense, limiting Auburn’s vaunted rushing attack to just 40 net yards. He had three of Tech’s seven sacks in the game against Auburn as well as another tackle for loss and a forced fumble. Henderson had six tackles in the game, and has nine in two games this season. He currently leads the team with five tackles for loss, four sacks, and a forced fumble in 2003 and also leads the ACC with 1.75 sacks per game.

Gergen, a junior from Topeka, Kan., led the Georgia Tech volleyball team to a perfect 2-0 record on the weekend, earning her MVP honors while leading the team to the Ohio State Buckeye Classic championship. She currently leads the team in hitting percentage (.525), blocks (20), and blocks per game (1.43). Gergen hit .636 on the weekend, recording just one error in 22 attempts. She tallied 11 kills, hit .625 and had four total blocks against Western Michigan in the first match of the tournament.
