THE FLATS – Rand Rowland joined the program in the summer of 2013 as a non-scholarship player, an excellent athlete who works with Tech’s big men in practice. Rowland didn’t dress for games in 2013-14, but worked as a member of the Tech “Iron Five” group who simulates the opponent’s offenses and defenses in practice.
A versatile athlete who played basketball, golf and tennis and ran cross country at White County High School, Rowland played three seasons of basketball for coach Sam Borg, earning second-team all-region honors in 2013 and earning a spot in the Northeast Georgia All-Star Classic. He helped carry the golf team to the region 8AAA championship in 2013. He was involved in many other high school activities, including the Student Council (vice president), Future Business Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Warrior TV (sideline reporter for state’s top high school student broadcasting network).
His oldest brother Scott, graduated from Tech in December 2013, and he is the cousin of former Tech infielder Jeff Rowland (2008-10) who went on to play in the Detroit Tigers minor league system. His father played baseball at West Georgia College and also in the Detroit Tigers minor league system.
