Hawranick, Sallinger & Schnugg Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Tech catcher Andy Hawranick, star pitcher Jessica Sallinger and tennis standout Scott Schnugg were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 12, 2004.

Hawranick, a sophomore from Akron, Ohio, hit .545 (6-for-11) last week, helping Tech to a 3-1 record against Georgia State and No. 8 North Carolina. He had one double, one triple and one home run with five RBI. Hawranick had a slugging percentage of 1.091 and scored five runs.

Sallinger, a junior from Kennesaw, Ga., led the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 record last week. The junior pitcher threw the opening game of the week against Georgia State on Wednesday, April 7, striking out the first nine batters of the game and allowing just one hit in the ballgame. Sallinger finished with 15 punch-outs, tallying 10 or more for the 14th time this season. Against Virginia on Saturday, April 10, the Kennesaw, Ga., native took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up a bunt single with two outs, ending the game with her second one-hitter of the week and 10th complete-game shutout of the season. She fanned seven in the game. For the week, Sallinger went 2-0, with a 0.00 ERA and struck out 22 in 14.0 innings of work.

Schnugg, a senior from Medford, Ore., helped the men’s tennis team to two wins on the week, defeating South Carolina and Miami. He won two matches at No. 1 singles on the week. Schnugg is currently ranked 46th in the nation and had a team-best 24 singles wins on the year.
