Hamilton Invited to New York as Heisman Finalist

ATLANTA (Dec. 6) – Georgia Tech quarterback Joe Hamilton is among the five finalists for the Heisman Trophy presentation, the Downtown Athletic Club announced Monday.

Also invited to New York, N.Y., for Saturday’s presentation are Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne and quarterbacks Michael Vick of Virginia Tech, Drew Brees of Purdue and Chad Pennington of Marshall. The Heisman Trophy presentation is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. at the Downtown Athletic Club. The event will be televised live on ESPN.

Before heading to New York, Hamilton will travel to Orlando, Fla., for the 1999 College Football Awards, presented by Home Depot and televised live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 5-7 p.m. EST. Hamilton, the consensus first-team all-America quarterback, is one of three finalists for the Maxwell Award, along with Dayne and Drew Brees, while Hamilton, Brees and Marshall’s Chad Pennington are the three finalists for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. The Burger King Coaches All-America team will also be announced on the show.
