THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech volleyball team (13-8, 4-5 ACC) fell in four sets to North Carolina (10-8, 7-2) Friday night. The Yellow Jackets drew a sellout crowd to O’Keefe Gym and honored their alumni in the intermission on Alumni Night.

How it Happened
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first set, but the Tar Heels worked back into the match. Tied 18-18, North Carolina went on a 4-1 run to take a 22-19 lead. The Tar Heels held on to capture the opening game, 25-22.

Ashley Askin put down three kills in a row to give Georgia Tech a 10-3, and the Jackets poured it on by going on an 11-4 run to take a 21-7 lead. Georgia Tech kept North Carolina in the single digits, winning 25-8.

North Carolina regrouped and, although the Yellow Jackets held off set point three times, won game three 25-19. The momentum stayed with the Tar Heels, who captured the fourth set, 25-18, and the match 3-1.

Quote
“I was really proud of the way we came out in games one and two,” head coach Michelle Collier said. “We were able in game one to get a good lead, and then we let that go. We were able to step up in game two and tactically we did everything we wanted to do and we played a great offensive match.

“We didn’t sustain that level, and to beat a team like that that’s what you need to do. We’ll pick it up and get ready for NC State.”

Quick Hits
Teegan Van Gunst led all players with 20 kills to go along with 17 digs for her 13th double-double this season. It marks back-to-back 20-kill performances by the junior, and her fifth-straight match with double-digit kills.
– Teegan hit .265 for the match, while Annika Van Gunst added eight kills, and Sydney Wilson and Ashley Askin had six kills apiece.
London Ackermann put up double-figure (12) digs for the fourth-straight match.

What’s Next
The Yellow Jackets host NC State on Sunday at 3 p.m. The match will air on the ACC Regional Sport Networks and ESPN3, as well as on WREK 91.1 FM.
