TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams were unable to pull out victories at Alabama on Saturday, as the men lost by a score of 199-99 and the women lost by a score of 191-106. Alabama’s men’s team is ranked No. 11, while the women’s team is No. 22.

Tech started things out on a high note, as the team of Maddie Paschal, Florina Ilie, Laura Branton and Iris Wang won the women’s 200 medley relay with a time of 1:44.19.

The Jackets received standout performances from Ben Southern in the butterfly races as well as the 200 medley relay. Southern finished first in the 200 fly, recording an NCAA B-cut time of 1:47.62 in the process. Yuval Safra (1000 free, 9:22.17) and Moises Loschi (200 breast, 2:00.31) also posted wins for the men on Saturday.

On the women’s side, Iris Wang continued her stellar season, finishing second in both the 50 free and 100 free races.

On the diving boards, senior Shannon Lumbra put together a pair of stellar performances, winning the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with zone-qualifying scores of 290.90 and 293.60, respectively.

On the men’s diving boards, freshman Matt Casillas hit zone-qualifying marks in both the 1-meter (304.40) and 3-meter (341.15) in only his second meet of the season.

“We faced a great program in Alabama today,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said. “It was a very fun meet for our team, and we saw a lot of good things from our athletes. We are all very excited about coming back to Atlanta for our Senior Day and Family Weekend celebrations, and we look forward to seeing our fans in the stands next Saturday when we face Emory.”
