@GTSwimDive Alumna Makes Olympic History

July 27, 2016

THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech swimmer Keren Siebner, class of 2012, is set to make history as she competes on Israel’s first women’s relay team in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Siebner will compete in her first Olympic Games in Rio in the 400-free relay.

“I am so proud of Keren for continuing to work hard and achieve her dream of becoming an Olympian,” said swimming and diving head coach Courtney Hart. “It is an amazing accomplishment.”

Siebner was a member of Georgia Tech’s swimming and diving program from 2009-12. During her career at Tech, Siebner set the school record in the 100 fly with a time of 53.82. She also was a member of the school-record-setting 200-free relay (1:32.95) and 400-medley relay (3:42.02) teams. Siebner was named to the all-ACC academic team in 2012 and she remains among the top 10 in Georgia Tech swimming and diving history for six different events.

She joins former Jacket Gal Nevo (’10) as a member of Israel’s Olympic swimming team. Siebner’s inclusion brings the total number of former Jackets competing in the Olympics to five. Also competing in the 2016 Olympics are track and field athlete Chaunte Howard Lowe (’05) (USA), golfer Matt Kuchar (’00) (USA) and Andrew Chetcuti (’16) (Malta).
