THE FLATS – Four members of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will travel to Alabama this weekend to compete in the Crimson Tide Invitational.
Matches are scheduled to run all day Friday and Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. CT, with the potential for Sunday play depending on the weekend’s weather. The tournament features players from Alabama, UAB, Ball State, DePaul, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Lipscomb, Loyola Marymount, LSU, Michigan, Middle Tennessee State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Samford, Tennessee Chattanooga, Troy, Tulane and Vanderbilt. Junior Kendal Woodard, sophomore Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and freshmen Johnnise Renaud and Alexis Prokopuik will represent the Yellow Jackets this weekend.
Woodard will see her first action of the fall season at Alabama this weekend. Woodard won a team-best 30 doubles matches last season and went 11-22 in singles play. Woodard and doubles partner Megan Kurey were the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Doubles champion and won the 2013 ITA/USTA Southeast Regional Doubles title. The duo were named 2014 ITA All-Americans and honored on the 2014 ITA Collegiate All-Star team. Woodard was honored on the All-ACC First Team in 2014.
Anton-Ohlmeyer has recorded a 1-4 singles record this fall and has gone 3-2 in doubles play alongside Prokopuik. Anton-Ohlmeyer and Prokopuik advanced to the round of 16 in doubles at the 2014 ITA Southeast Regionals. Prokopuik is 3-3 in singles this fall.
Renaud has recorded a 6-2 singles record and has gone 3-1 with doubles partner Natasha Prokhnevska. Renaud competed in the Junior U.S. Open this fall as well as the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American tournament in California. Renaud most recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the main singles draw of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional.
