ITA Preseason Rankings | All-American Championships Selections
THE FLATS – Five members of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team were featured on the 2014 ITA Division I Women’s Preseason Rankings that were released on Monday.
Freshman Johnnise Renaud was tabbed as the number seven player on the ITA’s newcomer/freshman rankings. Out of the 10 newcomers that were ranked, Renaud is just one of three ACC players to be featured. Renaud and doubles partner Kendal Woodard were ranked as the No. 26 doubles duo in the preseason doubles rankings.
Woodard went 30-14 in doubles last season, going 14-6 in dual matches. Woodard and fellow junior Megan Kurey were the 2013 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Doules champions and were both named ITA All-Americans.
Renaud was also selected to the prequalifying singles draw of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. For the 31st year, the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, will serve as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships. The national event is set to begin on Saturday, September 27 with prequalifying singles and doubles matches, which will once again be hosted by UCLA. Main draw action is slated for October 2-5.
Most recently Renaud competed at the Junior U.S. Open Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. Renaud went 1-1 against international competition in the Junior Girls’ Qualifying Singles Draw. This was her second time competing at the prestigious event. Renaud played in the 2013 U.S. Open Junior Championship and the Wimbledon Junior Championships. She also competed in the Canadian Open Junior Championship where she advanced to the round of 32 after defeating Japan’s Hikari Yamamot.
Junior Megan Kurey and sophomore Rasheeda McAdoo were also featured on the ITA preseason doubles rankings at the No. 34 spot. Last season, Kurey went 27-12 overall in doubles play while McAdoo notched a 17-16 record during her freshman season. The two played together once in 2014, falling to Joelle Kissell and Sophie Nelson of N.C. State on court one.
For the first time in her career, junior Natasha Prokhnevska checks into the ITA rankings, coming in at No. 118 on the preseason singles list. During her sophomore campaign, Prokhnevska went 19-16 in singles and 6-8 in ACC matches. She played on courts one through four throughout the season and was named the ACC Player of the Week on February 18 after clinching the win against #27 Tennessee.
The Yellow Jackets kick off the 2014 fall season on September 19 when they host the Georgia Tech Invitational. Georgia State, LSU and N.C. State will compete at the GT Invitational which will be held at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
