@GT_trackNfield: Matthews Set for NCAAs

March 10, 2016

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.Bria Matthews will represent Georgia Tech at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place March 11-12 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Matthews, a freshman from Morrow, Ga., won gold medals two weeks ago in both the long jump and triple jump at the ACC Championships. Earlier in the season, Matthews set the school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.40 at the Vanderbilt Invitational. In January, Matthews set the Birmingham CrossPlex record in the triple jump with a mark of 13.33.

“Bria’s had an outstanding indoor season, and it will be exciting to watch her compete this weekend at the NCAA Championships,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “She jumped very well at this facility earlier in the season, so that familiarity with the runway will be important in both events. Coach (Nat) Page has done a great job with Bria. She has a great competitive attitude, and our whole program will be supporting her in Birmingham.”

Matthews will compete in the long jump on Friday at 8:10 p.m. ET, and will participate in the triple jump on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. ET. Live results from Friday and Saturday can be followed at http://on.ncaa.com/1AuT8JN.
