Preseason Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Rankings | Program of the Year Standings
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Georgia Tech women’s track and field is ranked 25th in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association’s (USTFCCCA) preseason outdoor poll and 19th in the organization’s latest 2018-19 Program of the Year standings, the USTFCCCA recently announced.
The No. 25 preseason outdoor ranking comes on the heels of the Yellow Jackets’ strong indoor season, led by Bria Matthews and Jeanine Williams.
The Jackets placed 48th at the recently completed NCAA indoor championships, where Matthews placed fifth in the women’s triple jump to earn All-America honors and Williams participated in the women’s 60 meter hurdles.
Georgia Tech is one of five ACC programs ranked in top 25 of the USTFCCCA’s preseason outdoor poll.
Strong showings in both cross country and indoor track and field have propelled the Yellow Jackets to No. 19 in the USTFCCCA’s Program of the Year standings. In addition to the 48th-place finish at the NCAA indoor championships, Tech placed 28th in last fall’s NCAA cross country championship, good for the second-highest finish in program history (the Jackets finished 26th in 2001).
Georgia Tech (19th) and Florida State (18th) are the only ACC teams in the current Program of the Year rankings.
The Yellow Jackets travel to FSU for their second outdoor meet of the season, the Florida State Relays, which will be held on Friday and Saturday.
