THE FLATS – On day one of the MLK Tournament, the Yellow Jackets faced N0. 16 ranked Illinois in both singles and doubles.
Cole Gromley led the way defeating No. 10 Alex Brown, 6-4, 6-3 while Phillip Gresk overcame a 1-6 first set to come back and win 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 over No. 90 Noe Khlif.
“The great thing about this is we can get better and play tomorrow and the next day,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “Some of these guys didn’t even play in the fall. You’re reminded that when you get competitive, you can’t underestimate the game of tennis. It’s going to take a little bit [of time], and it showed up in singles too at different times. There’s obviously some good highlights, [Carlos] Divar played his first match in 6-7 months and he fought through.”
Tech returns to the courts for day two of the MLK Tournament on Sunday against Columbia. The match will begin at 2 p.m. and will start with doubles.
