Gibson Wins Shot Put on Day 2 of Clemson Invite

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track & field teams’ weekend of competition at the Clemson Invite on Saturday, Jan. 14.

Jamir Gibson shined for the Jackets this weekend. On Friday, Gibson recorded a new school record in the men’s weight throw with a third-place mark of 20.40m (66-11.25). He capped off the meet by winning the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.60m (61-0.25).

Shanty Papkosta and Matthew Mazzacano took home fifth place in their respective events. Papkosta jumped a mark of 1.78m (5-10) and Mazzacano recorded a mark of 4.70m (15-5).

John Watkins recorded an eighth-place mark of 14.90m (48-10.75) in the men’s triple jump. Sheleah Harris also finished eighth in her event, running a time of 24.35 in the women’s 200m.

In the men’s 3000 meters, Nick Nyman placed sixth (8:18.22), Joshua Williams took home 12th place (8:23.83) and Cole Miller finished in 13th place (8:24.35).

In the women’s 3000 meters, Sophie Boice was the Jackets’ top performer with an eighth-place time of 10:05.75. Reagan Mahoney came in 10th place (10:15.06) and Erin Fegans finished in 14th place (10:20.52).

The men’s 4×400 meter relay team, comprised of Jameson Miller, Bradley Favors, Harrison Fultz and Mac Bloodworth, finished with an eighth-place time of 3:20.24.
