Gibbs Leads Jackets on Day One of Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – Kimery Hern placed first in the women’s hammer throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 190 feet, 9 inches to lead Georgia Tech on a rain shortened day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational at the George C. Griffin track.

Hern, a sophomore from Clinton, Wash., finished with her second-best throw of the season, behind her school-record mark of 193 feet, 5 inches, which she set at the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. Freshman Samantha Musil placed ninth with a personal-best mark of 155 feet, 2 inches.

On the men’s side, sophomore Charles Rohling placed 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 170 feet, 2 inches.

Senior Jenny Sims finished sixth in the women’s 1500-meter run with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 4:25.66. Sims personal-best time is the fourth fastest in school history. In the men’s 1500, sophomore E.C. Gibbs finished fifth in the first heat with an NCAA Regional qualifying and personal-best time of 3:47.49.

Senior Fatmata Fofanah placed first in her heat of the 100-meter hurdles equaling her personal-best and NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.16. Junior Shantia Moss placed third with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.30.
