THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 22 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Sunday. Earlier on Sunday, the Jackets debuted at No. 23 in the USA TODAY Amway Coaches Poll.
Georgia Tech (5-0, 2-0) is ranked for the first time since Nov. 20, 2011, when it was ranked No. 25 in the AP and 21 by the coaches. It is Georgia Tech’s highest AP ranking since Nov. 6, 2011, when the Jackets were ranked 20th.
The Yellow Jackets, who snapped a five-game series losing streak to the Hurricanes, are 5-0 for only the fifth time since 1957 and the second time under head coach Paul Johnson. Georgia Tech also started 5-0 in 1964, 1966, 1990 and 2011.
Saturday’s win also marked the first time Georgia Tech has defeated Virginia Tech and Miami in the same season in the Johnson era.
