THE FLATS – Following a thrilling 28-17 Saturday night win over Miami, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 23 in the latest USA TODAY Amway Coaches Poll released Sunday.
Georgia Tech (5-0, 2-0) is ranked for the first time since Nov. 20, 2011, when it was ranked No. 21 by the coaches and No. 25 in the AP.
The Yellow Jackets, who snapped a five-game series losing streak to the Hurricanes, are 5-0 for only the fifth time since 1957 and the second time under head coach Paul Johnson. Georgia Tech also started 5-0 in 1964, 1966, 1990 and 2011.
Saturday’s win also marked the first time Georgia Tech has defeated Virginia Tech and Miami in the same season in the Johnson era.
