Georgia Tech’s men’s tennis sophomore Jose Muguruza was named as a member of the all-Atlantic Coast Conference men’s tennis team as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The 18-member team was selected by a vote of the conference’s 11 head coaches.
Muguruza garners all-conference accolades for the first time in his career and he is currently the nation’s 24th-ranked singles players and is first on the team with a 26-12 overall singles record and is 12-8 in dual matches this season while playing at the top of the singles lineup. He also pairs with freshman Sukhwa Young at No. 2 doubles and the two have a 5-5 record this spring.
Muguruza and the rest of the No. 28 Georgia Tech (13-8) men’s tennis team will open play in the first round of the ACC Tournament Thursday as the sixth seed, taking on 11th seeded Maryland (10-12) at 3 p.m. Full tournament results will be available at www.theacc.com with recaps on all Yellow Jacket matches available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
