Georgia Tech XC Heads to Furman

Oct. 9, 2015

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country squads travel to Furman University to compete at the 43rd annual Gene Mullin Invitational. The meet will serve as a make-up for last weekend’s Upstate Invitational, a meet in which the team did not participate due to weather.

The men will be led by seniors Jeremy Greenwald and Brandon Lasater, who have each led the team in a meet this season. Greenwald has won four meets over the last two seasons, including a victory at the JSU Struts Invitational to open the season.

The women will be led by Melissa Fairey, who has been the top finisher in both meets. Fairey came in first at the JSU/Struts Invitational, as well.

“We’re looking forward to competing at Furman on Saturday,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “With the unscheduled weekend off last week due to weather, it’s time to get back to racing. The men and women will both race the 5000m distance.

“We’re looking for strong performances as we head into the last half of our season. The preparation has gone well, so now we just have to execute good race plans and show great mental toughness.”

The women’s 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 5k at 9 a.m. They will take place at the Furman University Golf Course.
