TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Georgia Tech cross country team closed out their season at the 2015 NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. The men finished in 8th with a score of 211, while the women finished 17th with a score of 495.
Senior Brandon Lasater ended his outstanding career on a positive note, leading the way for the Jackets at 22nd with a time of 31:29.34 in the men’s 10k race. Zane Coburn (43rd, 32:02.21), Nahom Solomon (48th, 32:16.55) and Matt Munns (50th, 32:18.40) rounded out the Jackets’ top-50 finishers.
Melissa Fairey was the top finisher for the third time this season, posting a time of 21:57.91 and finishing 74th in the women’s 6k. Freshman Hailey Gollnick was the next-best finisher at 102nd (22:30.48).
“It wasn’t the day we wanted, but I’m proud of both teams, and in particular our seniors,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “The women competed as a team and raced for each other, and we needed to see that today. The men were aggressive, but the 10k is a long distance and requires patience early, and we just didn’t execute our race.
“We didn’t finish where I thought we would, but in dealing with some injury issues I know they competed as hard as they could today.”
