ATLANTA – Georgia Tech head women’s tennis coach Bryan Shelton announced Catherine Harrison of Germantown, Tenn., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Yellow Jackets beginning in 2012-13.
Shelton and assistant coach Alison Silverio will welcome Harrison along with Tech’s fall signing class of Megan Kurey, Kendal Woodard and Natasha Prokhnevska, which is ranked No. 2 nationally by tennisrecruiting.net.
Harrison is a blue-chip prospect, ranked No. 9 nationally and the best player in the state of Tennessee by tennisrecruiting.net. She competed in the 2011 Wimbledon Girls Singles Championship, advancing to the second round, and played with fellow American Christina Makarova in the 2011 Wimbledon Girls Doubles Championship.
“We are very pleased to finally add Catherine Harrison to our group of outstanding incoming freshmen,” Shelton said. “Catherine has consistently been one of the most outstanding junior players in the United States. She has played all over the world and has had success on the big stage. Her success has not been limited to the singles court either. Catherine is a very good doubles player and will make an immediate impact on our team.
Alison and I are really excited about working with her and seeing just how far she can go. She is also a great person who will represent Georgia Tech in a very positive way,” Shelton added.
Harrison has advanced to the semifinals and quarterfinals of the past two USTA Girls 18 National Clay Court Championships held at The Racquet Club of Memphis. Having never played together, she teamed up with Breaunna Addison to win the ITF Pan American Doubles title over second-seeded Gabby Andrews and Taylor Townsend last October in Tulsa, Okla.
Harrison owns a 38-19 overall record this year, including a perfect 8-0 mark against tennisrecruiting.net five-star players.
