ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team advanced one of its remaining doubles teams to the “A” doubles consolation finals, but was unable to finish the day with a draw title in Mobile, Ala., at the Omni Hotels ITA South Regional. The event, which serves as a qualifier for the ITA National Indoor Championships, was held at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets opened the day in singles play, with a pair of players in the “B” singles quarterfinals. Tech junior Mason Miller and sophomore Kristen Roberson were both unable to advance in the draw, dropping their morning matches on Sunday. Miller took Christina Denny to three sets before bowing out, losing the first set by a 3-6 score, before bouncing back to win the second set 6-3. Denny then finished off the match by winning the third set by a 6-2 count.
In the other half of the bracket, Roberson could not get by Mei Ly, as she dropped the first set by a 6-1 score and fell in the second set by a 6-4 count.
In doubles action, Tech’s duo of Miller and fellow junior Jamie Wong reached the consolation finals of the “A” doubles draw before falling in that round of play. Miller and Wong won their morning match with Sophie De’Smet and Sally Pearson by an 8-5 score, but were unable to overcome Petra Bercik and Carolina Ramirez, dropping an 8-5 decision in the finals.
The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will take a week off before returning to action on November 8, at the Illinois Fall Invitational in Champaigne, Ill. b
