Georgia Tech Volleyball Hosts Spring Tournament Saturday

March 31, 2005

Now into the third week of spring season, the Georgia Tech volleyball team hosts its annual spring tournament Saturday, April 2 in O’Keefe Gymnasium. The tournament will feature Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina as well as cross-town rival Georgia State. The tournament is set as a round robin format with play begining at 10 a.m. and with the last match scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

“This is another great opportunity for our team to make improvements this Saturday,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “We’ve had a few weeks of practice under our belts now and have played in one spring tournament and we are looking to build upon some of the progress we’ve made recently. Though the event is informally run, the competitive juices are in full flow and I expect our team to work just as hard for every point in a spring match as they do during the regular season.”

Tech advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year last season and return eight winners, including four starters, to a team which finished the season 27-7.

“We hope that our fans stop by to take a look at the future of the program, lend thier support and see some good volleyball,” said Shymansky.
