With a 6-2 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Georgia Tech volleyball team (10-7, 6-2 ACC) hosts rival Clemson (9-7, 4-4 ACC) Tuesday at 7 p.m. in O’Keefe Gymnasium in a key conference matchup. The match will be broadcast live on WREK radio (91.1 FM) in the Atlanta area beginning at 6:45 p.m. and live audio streaming may be heard at www.wrek.org. In addition, fans may follow gametracker at www.ramblinwreck.com.
In addition, the match will be shown on a tape delay basis on Fox Sports South at a date to be announced later.
“It’s always important to us to play well against Clemson,” said head coach Bond Shymansky. “They are a very powerful offensive team but have struggled some this year with their passing and getting in sync with their setters. They have possibly the toughest outside hitting combination in Jeannette Abbott and Brittany Ross and at times this year those two have taken over matches for them. We’ll need a great deal of focus and will have to play great defense to have success against them this year.”
Tuesday’s match marks the 41st meeting between the Yellow Jackets and Clemson, with the Tigers holding the edge, 24-16. Tech defeated the Tigers during the regular season last year but then fell to Clemson in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, a match which broke Tech’s 21 match win streak.
“The biggest challenge for us is getting our team ready to play after just playing this past weekend,” said Shymansky. “We are in the middle of a tough week for us in hosting three ACC matches this week. After returning home from a road-trip Sunday, we are going to work hard as a staff to our team motivated as quickly as we can to get them focused on our match tomorrow against Clemson.”
