ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will host the annual Georgia Tech Invitational, Friday-Saturday, May 11-12, at the Georgia C. Griffin Track. The meet is free admission.
The Jackets will welcome over 1,000 representatives from over 70 colleges from around the country for the meet two weeks before the NCAA Regional.
“We are looking forward to hosting the 2007 edition of the Georgia Tech Invitational,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “Historically, this has been one of the premier collegiate invitationals in the country with representatives from between 60-70 colleges. I expect the same this weekend. Our team is very excited about the opportunity to compete at home, and, in such a quality event.”
Junior Jerome Miller will look to better his school record mark of 7 feet, 3 inches in the high jump, which he set at the Yellow Jacket Invitational in March. Also competing for the men’s team are Regional qualifiers James Lemons II, Alphonso Jordan, Steve Marcelle and Andy Powlen.
On the women’s side, senior Ashlee Kidd will make her final appearance on her home track. Kidd has qualified for the NCAA Regional in five events this spring including the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash, the 400-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4×100-meter relay. Also competing for the Jackets are Regional qualifiers Jacqua Williams, Shantia Moss, Shantrell Moss, Kimery Hern and Samantha Musil.
Live stats for the Georgia Tech Invitational will be provided by Delta Timing and will be available on the official Georgia Tech website.
