Georgia Tech Track Opens Outdoor Season at FSU Relays

ATLANTA-Georgia Tech opens its outdoor season at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. Field events for the two days are set to start at 10 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., respectively and will last most of the day. The running events for the weekend are set to kick off at 11:20 a.m. on Friday, and noon on Saturday.

The Yellow Jacket track and field team looks to build off of the momentum created from indoor season. The women’s track team finished the indoor season ranked 21st nationally and finished second in the Athletic Coast Conference. The men’s team had a strong showing placing fifth in the ACC.

Tech had a group of performers earn ACC accolades. For the men, Brendon Mahoney (800m and 1-mile), Michael Massey (high jump), Holt McPherson (long jump), Montrell Person (60m hurdles), Kyle Rabbitt (5000m), and Zeb Sion (shot put) all earned all-ACC honors, while Chaunte Howard (high jump, long jump, and triple jump), Ashlee Kidd (400m), Lauren Reimer (pentathlon), Amandi Rhett (60m), Dana Rogers (60m hurdles), and Shanta Smith (triple jump) all garnered all-ACC honors for the women.

The indoor season was highlighted with a number of championships. Montrell Person took home the championship in the 60-meter hurdles, while Ashlee Kidd took that honor in the 400. Brendon Mahoney won the ACC championship in both the 800 and in the mile. Chaunte Howard took home ACC championship honors before returning to competition to take the national high jump title.
