ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech track and field teams will kick off their 2007 outdoor season at the Wake Forest Open this Friday and Saturday, March 23-24, at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The event will feature fellow Atlantic Coast Conference institutions Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The Tech women’s team is coming off a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, led by junior Shantia Moss, who earned the national championship in the 60-meter hurdles with a school- and personal-record time of 7.98. Senior Ashlee Kidd placed third in the 400-meter dash at the championship meet with another school- and personal-best time of 51.96.
On the men’s side, junior Jerome Miller was the lone representative at the NCAA Indoor Championships, placing 12th in the high jump with a mark of 7 feet, ¼ inches. Senior James Lemons II, the ACC Indoor title in the triple jump with his best indoor mark of 51 feet, 3 ¾ inches, led the men’s team to a 4th-place finish at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Field events at the Wake Forest Open start at 1 p.m. on Friday with the women’s javelin. Running events begin at 1:45 p.m. with the preliminaries of the Steve Brown 100-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. Competition restarts at 9 a.m. on Saturday with the Cliff Neal Hammer Throw and will end with the 1,600-meter relay at 6:30 p.m.
