PINEHURST, N.C. – Georgia Tech, which returns 15 starters from a team that finished first in the ACC Coastal Division last season, was picked to finish second in the division in 2007 by a panel of 83 sports journalists. The preseason poll was announced here today at the annual ACC Football Kickoff.
Virginia Tech was the overwhelming favorite to win the Coastal Division. The Hokies received 77 of 83 first-place votes. The Yellow Jackets, in second place, received four first-place votes. Miami was picked to finish third, followed by Virginia, North Carolina and Duke.
Florida State was tabbed to finish atop the Atlantic Division. The Seminoles received 37 first-place votes and finished ahead of BostonCollege, which had 25 first-place ballots. Clemson was picked to finish third in the division, followed by defending division champion Wake Forest, Maryland and NC State.
Virginia Tech was the choice of the media to win the ACC Championship Game.
Last year at this time Georgia Tech was picked to finish third in the Coastal Division. The Yellow Jackets ended up finishing first in the division and played WakeForest in the ACC Championship. WakeForest, in last year’s poll, was selected to finish last in the Atlantic Division.
